Job summary

Amey is recruiting an On-Site Plumber for our MoJ/HMP Cardiff contract at Knox Road, Cardiff. This permanent, full-time position involves delivering planned and reactive maintenance to ensure safe, compliant prison facilities.

You will perform routine and fault-finding tasks on water systems, support zero-carbon initiatives, and work within strict safety and method statements, including potential prison security clearance.

Qualifications

• Trade qualification (Level 3) required.
• NVQ Level 3 in Plumbing and Heating preferred; NVQ Level 2 considered.
• Experience in commercial environments desired.
• Legionella Control (L8) desirable but not essential.
• Prison Security Clearance will be supported by Amey.

Responsibilities

• Perform planned and reactive plumbing maintenance to high safety standards.
• Inspect, repair and replace water systems and equipment as needed.
• Monitor BMS systems and assist with sustainability initiatives.
• Respond to faults with appropriate, timely fault finding and repairs.
• Work at height and in varied weather conditions as required.
• Adhere to method statements and health & safety policies.
• Support the line manager with additional tasks as assigned.

We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for a Permanent Plumber to come and join our Ministry of Justice (MoJ) account in HMP Cardiff, Knox Rd, Cardiff CF24 0UG

At Amey, we’re supporting our justice client, His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) by providing them with safe, clean and efficient prisons.

By using our facilities management expertise, we help keep 60 secure premises across England and Wales running smoothly.

Plumbers plays an important part in ensuring the planned and reactive maintenance work within the prisons is carried out in a safe, compliant and timely manner.

The standard hours of work are 39 hours per week. (8:00am-5pm mon-fri with 1 hour lunch. And a 1 in 3 weekend shift pattern with a 15% allowance.

What You Will Do

• Ensuring Health & Safety standards are met across the contract.
• Performing statutory works on time, ensuring compliance.
• Conducting routine and non-routine maintenance, including fault finding and repairs.
• Inspecting, sampling water, and assessing risks to maintain system integrity.
• Repairing mains water supply and address life-expired equipment.
• Monitoring the BMS System to ensure optimal performance.
• Supporting zero carbon initiatives, contributing to sustainability goals.
• Handling additional tasks as directed by your line manager, including working at height and in various weather conditions.

What makes this role unique is you will ensure all works are carried out to the highest safety standards and to the agreed method statements. Prison Security Clearance will be required (Amey will support you through this process).

We Want To Hear From You If You Have

• Appropriate Trade qualification (Level 3)
• Experience in operating light plant

Ideally you will be qualified to NVQ level 3 in Plumbing and Heating with experience in plumbing maintenance, however we may consider applications if you have NVQ level 2.

In addition to this, it would be desirable if you have Legionella Control (L8) and experience in a commercial environment to help you hit the ground running, although this is not essential as we will provide you with the required development you need to bring you up to speed.
