Job summary

Amey Ltd in Redditch is seeking an on-site General Building Operative at HMP Hewell. The role involves 39 hours per week with a weekend rota and a 15% allowance on basic salary.

The base salary is £28,792 per year, with responsibilities spanning general maintenance, safety compliance, and on-site support for tradespeople. Applicants should have solid DIY/general maintenance experience and a CITB certification or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Work in a team to provide general maintenance tasks and support tradespeople on site.
• Provide professional assistance to requests including contractor escorting duties when required.
• Complete DIY tasks such as decorating, hanging notice boards, building furniture, repairing items around the prison.
• Check appliances, fittings and environment for good order; report defects to Team Leader.
• General housekeeping, litter picking and landscaping around grounds as required.
• Support local and business zero carbon programmes, working toward zero carbon where appropriate.
• Ensure H&S standards are achieved across the contract.
