Job summary

Amey is offering an on-site General Building Operative role at HMP Hewell. The 39-hour week includes weekend rotas with a 1 in 3 weekend rota and a 15% allowance of basic salary.

You’ll work with a team on general maintenance, support trades, and carry out DIY tasks around the prison. Applicants should have DIY/maintenance experience and a CITB certificate, with a team-focused approach and a willingness to learn.

Responsibilities

• Work in a team to perform general maintenance and support trades on site.
• Provide assistance to requestors, including escorting contractors when needed.
• Carry out DIY tasks, decorating, furniture building, and repairs around the prison.
• Inspect appliances and fittings; report defects to the Team Leader.
• Maintain cleanliness and grounds as required.
• Deliver other FM duties as directed by the team manager.
• Support local and national carbon reduction initiatives and safety standards.

We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for an on-site General Building Operative in HMP Hewell.

The standard hours of work are 39 hours per week (across 7 days where a weekend shift pattern is in place).

There is a need to work 1 in 3 weekends on a rota basis (and with an additional allowance of 15% of basic salary).

The base salary is £28,792.

At Amey, we’re supporting our justice client, His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) by providing them with safe, clean and efficient prisons.

By using our facilities management expertise, we help keep 60 secure premises across England and Wales running smoothly.

The General Building Operative plays an important part in ensuring the planned and reactive maintenance work within the prisons is carried out in a safe, compliant and timely manner.

What you will do:

• Work in a team to provide general maintenance tasks and support tradespeople on site.
• Provide a professional assistance service to those requesting support including contractor escorting duties when required.
• Complete tasks associated with DIY such as Decorating, hanging notice boards, building furniture, repair of items around the prison.
• Check appliances, fittings and general environment are in good working order and all defects reported to Team Leader.
• General good housekeeping, including litter picking and landscaping around the grounds if required.
• All other FM duties as required directed by team manager.
• Thisrole will also support both local and businesszero carbon programmes, working towards zero carbon in astrategicand lean manner as and where it is appropriate.
• Responsible for ensuring H&S standards are achieved across the contract.
