Job summary

Amey is seeking an On-Site Electrician for HMP Birmingham on a permanent basis. The role covers planned and reactive electrical maintenance across prison facilities, with a 39-hour week and a 4-week rota. The base salary ranges from £30,866 to £36,135 depending on experience.

You'll work to BS7671 standards, participate in safety procedures, and support the Responsible and Authorised Persons. This is a great opportunity within a supportive team offering pension, holidays, and development

Qualifications

• City & Guilds 2367 or 2357 Level 2 Electrical Installation works or equivalent.
• BS7671 18th Edition, or 17th Edition with upskilling to 18th Edition.
• Good working knowledge of Health & Safety requirements.
• Good working knowledge of planned and preventative maintenance operations.
• Excellent organisational, time management and people skills.
• Experience of working under pressure to tight deadlines.
• Able to work at heights, independently, and use initiative.
• Understanding of fire alarm and CCTV systems (Desirable).
• Knowledge and experience of Electrical Systems and Electricity at work Regulations.
• Basic IT skills.

Responsibilities

• Planned and preventative electrical maintenance, including administrative duties aligned to the tasks.
• Actively fault finding / problem solving on electrical systems across the prison.
• Carry out like for like replacements and other electrical minor works with the relevant electrical inspections and tests carried out and results recorded in accordance with BS7671.
• Ensuring that all electrical systems are safe, compliant, and functioning effectively helping to create a secure and well-maintained environment for staff and residents.
• Assist the Responsible person and Authorised person when requested.
• Ensure Health & Safety standards, Risk Assessments, and Safe Systems of Work are consistently implemented and followed across all appropriate work streams.
• Assist escorting duties and other duties as required.
