Job summary

Amey Ltd is recruiting an on-site Electrician for HMP Cardiff. The role involves safe, compliant maintenance and repair of electrical systems across a prison environment, with a 39-hour week and shift uplift on some weekends. Applicants with City & Guilds Level 2 or equivalent and BS7671 are preferred.

Provision of health and safety compliance, testing, and timely fault resolution is essential. The role may include travel to related sites and engagement with sustainability initiatives as

Qualifications

• City & Guilds Level 2 Electrical Installation qualification or equivalent.
• BS7671 18th Edition (or willing to upskill from 17th).
• Good knowledge of Health & Safety requirements.
• Experience with planned and preventative maintenance.
• Understanding of fire alarm and CCTV systems (desirable).
• Basic IT skills and ability to work under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Ensure Health & Safety standards across the contract.
• Test and inspect electrical installations per current regulations.
• Respond promptly to breakdowns with safe, efficient repairs.
• Carry out planned and preventative electrical maintenance.
• Diagnose and replace failed domestic electrical components.
• Support zero carbon initiatives and sustainability goals.
