Job summary

SSEN Transmission is seeking a Substation Project Engineer to join our Offshore AC Project Engineering team, delivering Island projects and connecting to HVDC systems. You will drive design reviews, witness FATs, and promote safety by design across complex 400kV assets.

Based in Scotland with 50% office time in Glasgow, Perth, Inverness or Aberdeen; we value rigorous problem-solving, clear communication, and collaborative teamwork to ensure reliable electricity networks for Net Zero.

Qualifications

• Experience in transmission level substation projects up to 400kV including AIS and GIS.
• Understanding of Construction Design Management & Electricity Safety, Quality and Continuity Regulations.
• Strong problem-solving and proactive communication across project teams.
• Degree or HND in Electrical Engineering; Chartered Engineer status or progression preferred.

Responsibilities

• Create outline scope, site location plans, primary plant/substation layout and Single Line Diagrams for new build and asset replacement projects up to 400kV.
• Review contractor/consultant detailed designs and witness Factory Acceptance Tests.
• Implement safety by design principles to control engineering and safety risks.
• Support site and operational teams to ensure quality installations with minimal network risk.
• Evaluate tenders and procure/manage specialist services from consultants.
