Job summary

Claire Hazelgrove MP is looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Office Manager. This is an exciting opportunity to lead a new team.

Supporting Claire to be an active, impactful and approachable MP, the Office Manager will manage all staff (including in Westminster), the constituency office and provide quality support for the MP.

This role is full-time, with location flexibilty beyond working in the constituency office Weds-Fri.

Team leadership and line management:

  • Lead and manage the office team and recruitment
  • Identify training opportunities
  • Proactively identify problems and resolve them
  • Oversee professional administrative support
  • Exposure and management of complex cases
  • Lead complex casework as required

Office management:

  • Responsibility for budget management
  • Lead on security matters
  • Ensure the offices are fully equipped

MP support:

  • Provide proactive and detail-oriented support for the MP
  • Overall management of the Member's diary commitments, delegating tasks as appropriate
  • Have final signoff on areas dealgated from the MP, for example constituent correspondence
  • Plan the MPs' internal communications and external stakeholder engagement
  • Liaise with individuals/groups within the constituency on the MP’s behalf
  • Create and lead processes to ensure high quality and timely responses to constituents' policy enquiries, including reviewing draft content

There may be requirement to work outside of the normal working hours as required.

Required skills and values:

  • Some experience of managing and leading teams
  • Some experience of politics/parliament or a relevant field e.g. charity sector
  • Strong written and verbal communication
  • Experience of writing briefings
  • Proactivity in identifying priorities and opportunities
  • Ability to work, lead and manage independently
  • Ability to balance competing priorities
  • Discretion and professionalism
  • Knowledge of data protection law
  • Sympathetic to the aims of the Labour Party

Desirable skills and experience:

  • Some experience of policy and/or casework, whether in politics or a similar field e.g. charity sector
  • Experience of working in a public-facing environment
  • Some experience/ability to learn to edit website content
  • Some experience/ability to learn to create simple graphics for leaflets etc

Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. MPs pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
