Job summary

Nottinghamshire County Council's Adoption East Midlands team seeks an Occupational Therapist to join a trauma-informed MDT supporting adopted children and families. The Children and Families Department takes a strengths-based approach to working with each other, children, young people and families, and our partner agencies. We call this 'Our Nottinghamshire Approach'. Watch the two minute animation to learn more.

Adoption East Midlands is seeking an enthusiastic Occupational Therapist to join its established Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT). Since its launch in April 2023, the MDT has provided innovative, trauma-informed support to adopted children and their families, bringing together specialist expertise to improve outcomes and strengthen family relationships.

You will provide consultation and support to families, social workers and other professionals, contribute to therapeutic support planning, and deliver training across Adoption East Midlands and partner agencies. The role also includes supporting the MDT's Whole School Approach, contributing to multi-agency reflection groups, and helping to deliver the Parent and Child Sensory Group for families and their pre school age children.

About You

You will be passionate about supporting adopted children and families, with experience of trauma-informed practice and a strong understanding of sensory needs. We are looking for someone who enjoys working collaboratively, can think creatively, and is willing to travel across the D2N2 region as required.

Training and Support

• We offer regular supervision, ongoing professional development and a supportive team environment.

There is an expectation that the successful candidate, if not already equipped with specialist training in sensory attachment intervention (SAI), will train in BUSS (Building Underdeveloped Sensory Systems), and will be willing to commit to undertake BUSS Practicum training over the course of a number of years.

Contract Information

This post is offered as a fixed-term contract for 12 months. While the MDT currently has short-term funding, we are very optimistic about securing longer-term funding in the future.
