Job summary

Cambridgeshire County Council is seeking an Occupational Therapist to undertake holistic assessments and develop practical solutions that help people stay independent and safe in daily life.

You will report to a Senior Occupational Therapist within a supportive multidisciplinary team, with opportunities for professional development and involvement in preventative approaches across adult social care.

Qualifications

• Hold a degree or recognised qualification in Occupational Therapy.
• Be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
• Have a sound understanding of occupational therapy practice and a commitment to strengths-based, person-centred approaches.

Responsibilities

• Complete occupational therapy assessments and develop outcome-focused intervention plans.
• Recommend and arrange equipment and adaptations to maximise independence and safety.
• Promote single-handed care approaches through specialist assessment and problem-solving.
• Support the prevention of unnecessary hospital admissions and facilitate timely discharges.
• Provide advice, guidance and signposting to individuals, families, carers and partner organisations.
• Work collaboratively with health, social care and community partners to coordinate effective support.
• Contribute to the development of preventative and innovative approaches across the service.
• Provide professional support and guidance to non-registered staff, including Therapy Support Workers.
• Support the development of colleagues by promoting the effective use of occupational therapy principles, equipment and strengths-based practice.

What will you be doing?

As an Occupational Therapist, you will undertake holistic assessments and develop practical solutions that help people remain independent and safe in their daily lives. You will use your professional expertise to identify opportunities for prevention and early intervention, supporting individuals to achieve their goals and improve their quality of life.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Completing occupational therapy assessments and developing outcome-focused intervention plans.
• Recommending and arranging equipment and adaptations to maximise independence and safety.
• Promoting single-handed care approaches through specialist assessment and problem-solving.
• Supporting the prevention of unnecessary hospital admissions and facilitating timely discharges from hospital.
• Providing advice, guidance and signposting to individuals, families, carers and partner organisations.
• Working collaboratively with health, social care and community partners to coordinate effective support.
• Contributing to the development of preventative and innovative approaches across the service.
• Providing professional support and guidance to non-registered staff, including Therapy Support Workers.

You will report to a Senior Occupational Therapist and work as part of a supportive multidisciplinary team dedicated to improving outcomes for adults across Cambridgeshire.

About you

We are looking for a passionate and motivated Occupational Therapist who is committed to supporting adults to maximise their independence, achieve their goals and live well within their communities. You will be a proactive practitioner with strong assessment, problem-solving and communication skills, able to build positive relationships with individuals, families, colleagues and partner organisations.

To be successful in this role, you will:

• Hold a degree or recognised qualification in Occupational Therapy.
• Be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
• Have a sound understanding of occupational therapy practice and a commitment to strengths-based, person-centred approaches.
• Be able to undertake assessments, identify practical solutions and manage a varied workload.
• Demonstrate excellent communication and collaborative working skills.
• Be confident working both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Have good IT skills and the ability to maintain accurate records and reports.
• Be willing and able to travel across Cambridgeshire as required, with access to a vehicle.

We welcome applications from experienced Occupational Therapists as well as newly qualified practitioners. If you are newly qualified, or have limited experience within social care, you may be interested in our Occupational Therapy Preceptorship Programme.

This enhanced 12-month programme is designed to support the transition from student Occupational Therapist to autonomous practitioner, providing tailored development opportunities, structured support and professional guidance to build confidence and competence in practice.
