Job summary

Academics Ltd is seeking a dedicated 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a pupil with ALN in a Nursery/Reception setting in Barry. The role focuses on individualised support alongside helping with classroom activities, small-group work, and targeted interventions under the guidance of the class teacher.

There is emphasis on personal care support as required, including nappies, with a patient and flexible approach.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children with ALN or additional support needs.
• Experience in Nursery/Reception or Early Years setting preferred.
• Willingness to provide personal care, including nappies where required.
• Two professional references available on request.

Are you a caring, patient, and adaptable Teaching Assistant looking to make a real difference in Early Years education? We are seeking a dedicated 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a pupil with Additional Learning Needs (ALN) within a Nursery/Reception classroom in Barry.

The role will involve providing individualised support while also assisting with classroom activities, small-group work, and targeted interventions under the guidance of the class teacher. The role will also involve personal care, including nappy changing, where required.

Responsibilities

• Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a pupil with ALN, helping them access learning and participate in classroom activities.
• Support the pupil's communication, social, emotional, and developmental needs.
• Assist with personal care, including nappy changing and toileting, where required.
• Support the class teacher with general classroom activities, small-group work, and targeted interventions.
• Encourage independence, positive behaviour, and engagement in learning through play-based activities.
• Help maintain a safe, nurturing, and inclusive classroom environment.
• Work collaboratively with the class teacher and wider school team to support pupils' individual needs.

Requirements

• Experience supporting children with ALN or additional support needs is desirable.
• Experience working in a Nursery, Reception, or other Early Years setting would be beneficial.
• Comfortable and confident supporting personal care routines, including nappy changing.
• A patient, caring, and flexible approach.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team and follow guidance from the class teacher.
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply.
• Two professional references.
