Job summary

Shapes Day Nursery in Epsom is seeking a Nursery Chef to manage daily kitchen operations for up to 100 children aged 3 months to 5 years. You will plan meals, cater for allergies, and ensure compliance with health and safety policies.

The role requires experience cooking for young children, strong communication, and the ability to work with a Kitchen Assistant. Salary £28,000–£34,000 per annum DOE, 5 days a week, 7:30am–5:00pm.

Qualifications

• Level 2 Food Safety Certificate desirable.
• Experience cooking for young children.
• Understanding and experience of making meals for those with allergies.
• Ability to keep a clean and tidy kitchen and keep records up to date.
• Willingness to work with support of Kitchen Assistant.
• Excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Be responsible for the day-to-day running of the kitchen, ensuring compliance with registration and legislative requirements.
• Plan and prepare meals according to nursery menus and food policies.
• Cater for dietary requirements in line with parental guidance.
• Maintain kitchen procedures and records.
• Liaise with Nursery Manager on ordering kitchen equipment.
• Undertake other catering duties as required by the Nursery Manager.

Job description

Shapes Day Nursery are looking for a Nursery Chef to join the team in Epsom. The right candidate will be able to cater for up to 100 children per day, providing them with healthy meals and snacks for children aged between 3 months - 5 years with the support of the Kitchen Assistant.

Hours - 5 days a week, Monday to Friday - 7:30am - 5:00pm

Salary - £28,000 - 34,000 per annum DOE

Your role will include:

• To be responsible for the day-to-day running of the kitchen, always ensuring compliance with registration and legislative requirements.
• Responsible for the planning and preparation of food to provide meals in accordance with Nursery menus and food policies.
• Ensure that all individual dietary requirements are catered for in line with parental guidance.
• Maintain necessary kitchen procedures and records in accordance with Shapes Day Nursery and Environmental Health policies and processes.
• Liaise with nursery Manager on the ordering of necessary kitchen equipment.
• To undertake any other reasonable catering duties as requested by the Nursery Manager.
• Ensure the kitchen and equipment is always kept suitably clean including walls, floors and trolleys to transport food following a cleaning schedule.
• On a daily basis that all crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils are washed in accordance with food safety guidelines.
• Ensure that all foods are ready at the specified time and correctly served.
• To implement and maintain the nursery's equal opportunities policy ensuring that children, parents and the staff team are valued and practice is positive and non-discriminatory.
• To monitor any safeguarding issues following local authority procedures.
