Job summary

Babcock is seeking a Technical Author for our Devonport Royal Dockyard site in Plymouth. The role focuses on researching, developing and maintaining controlled documentation for radioactive waste management, ensuring safety and regulatory compliance while supporting national defence infrastructure.

You will work with engineers and operational teams to create clear procedures, perform QA, and support planning, costing and scheduling in a highly regulated engineering environment.

Qualifications

• Understanding of engineering principles and the ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics and specifications.
• Ability to analyse information from multiple technical sources and produce clear, accurate documentation.
• Understanding of industrial and radiological working environments and associated hazards.
• Ability to review operational activities and procedures within a regulated environment.
• Experience supporting the maintenance of facilities and equipment within an engineering or industrial setting.

Responsibilities

• Developing and maintaining technical procedures and operational documentation supporting radioactive waste management activities.
• Collaborating with engineers, subject matter experts and operational teams to gather and validate technical information.
• Providing technical support for work planning, scheduling and cost-estimation activities.
• Conducting onsite reviews to ensure documentation remains accurate, current and fit for purpose.
• Performing quality assurance reviews to ensure compliance with regulatory, contractual and safety requirements.
