Job summary

Amentum seeks a Manufacturing Engineer to support the Ministry of Defence’s Nuclear Submarine Build Programme. You will provide Independent Third-Party Witnessing, surveillance and inspection for Naval Reactor Plants, mainly on supplier sites in Derby, with occasional travel to Birchwood, MoD Bristol, and other sites.

The role requires hands-on manufacturing know-how (casting, forging, heat treatment, welding, coatings), BPVC awareness, and strong communication to coordinate with INA, MoD

Qualifications

• Engineering degree/HND/Apprenticeship with hands-on manufacturing experience.
• Experience in manufacturing processes such as metal casting, forging, powder metallurgy, heat treatment, welding, coating/deposition, metal removal, and cleaning.
• Experience in manufacturing process audits, ideally with BPVC compliance.
• Understanding of technical specifications and continuous improvement methods (Kaizen, Six Sigma, 5S).
• Knowledge of engineering materials (low-alloy steels, stainless steel, nickel alloys).
• Experience with measurement, inspection and testing techniques.
• Strong communication to work with customers and contractors.
• Security clearance in the UK or ability to obtain one.

Responsibilities

• Conduct on-site Independent Third-Party Witnessing of NRP manufacturing and testing.
• Provide impartial, balanced advice to MoD on future NRPs manufacturing.
• Represent INA at MoD/contractor meetings and brief findings.
• Prepare reports articulating observations and conclusions.
• Adhere to safety, technical and regulatory standards; protect information security.
