Job summary

Supply Star Recruitment Limited is seeking an experienced Non-Teaching Head of Year 10 for a Birmingham secondary school on a temporary basis, starting ASAP. The role focuses on pastoral leadership, safeguarding, attendance, and progress during GCSE years.

The ideal candidate will have secondary school experience in pastoral roles, be calm under pressure, and communicate effectively with students, families and staff. Immediate start available, with support throughout placement.

Qualifications

• Experience in pastoral, behaviour, safeguarding or Head of Year in a secondary school.
• Confident managing challenging behaviour and pastoral situations.
• Build positive, professional relationships with students.
• Excellent communication and organisational skills.
• Able to work with parents, teachers and senior leadership.
• Strong safeguarding and student welfare understanding.
• Calm, resilient and decisive in a busy school environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide pastoral leadership and support for Year 10 students.
• Monitor attendance, punctuality, behaviour and wellbeing.
• Manage behavioural and pastoral issues effectively.
• Support students facing barriers to learning.
• Collaborate with teaching staff, senior leaders and pastoral team.
• Communicate with parents regarding student progress and concerns.
• Support safeguarding procedures and escalate concerns.
• Help maintain high expectations for behaviour, engagement and achievement.
• Assist students through GCSE study progression.

Job description

We are currently recruiting for an experienced and confident Non-Teaching Head of Year 10 to join a secondary school in Birmingham on a temporary basis, starting as soon as possible.

This is a key pastoral role within the school and would suit someone with strong experience supporting secondary-aged pupils, managing behaviour and attendance, and working closely with students, families and school staff.

The Role

• Providing strong pastoral leadership and support for Year 10 students
• Monitoring and supporting attendance, punctuality, behaviour and wellbeing
• Managing behavioural and pastoral issues effectively and consistently
• Supporting students who may be experiencing barriers to learning
• Working closely with teaching staff, senior leaders and the wider pastoral team
• Communicating with parents and carers regarding student progress and concerns
• Supporting safeguarding procedures and escalating concerns appropriately
• Helping to maintain high expectations for behaviour, engagement and achievement
• Supporting students as they progress through an important stage of their GCSE studies

The Ideal Candidate

• Has previous experience in a pastoral, behaviour, safeguarding or Head of Year role within a secondary school
• Is confident managing challenging behaviour and sensitive pastoral situations
• Can build positive and professional relationships with students
• Has excellent communication and organisational skills
• Can work effectively with parents, teachers and senior leadership
• Has a strong understanding of safeguarding and student welfare
• Is calm, resilient and able to make sound decisions in a busy school environment
• Is available to start as soon as possible

Previous experience working specifically with Key Stage 4 or Year 10 students would be particularly advantageous.

What’s on Offer?

• £200–£300 per day, depending on experience
• Full-time hours, 8:00am–4:00pm, Monday to Friday
