Job description

Job Title: Nightshift Transport Planner

Location: Ballymena

Position: Permanent

Pay Rate: Depending on experience

Responsibilities:

1. Create and adjust transport plans for night operations based on customer orders, deadlines, and driver availability.
2. Allocate loads to vehicles and drivers efficiently.
3. Track vehicle locations using GPS/telematics.
4. Monitor delivery and collection progress, resolving issues like delays, breakdowns, or route changes.
5. Communicate with night drivers to provide instructions, updates, and support.
6. Ensure compliance with legal driving hours and company policies.
7. React promptly to unplanned events such as traffic delays or vehicle breakdowns.
8. Re-route or reassign deliveries as needed.
9. Maintain safety and legal standards (tachograph rules, driver rest periods, etc.).
10. Keep accurate records of routes, incidents, and driver logs.
11. Coordinate with warehouses, customers, and other departments for smooth operations.
12. Provide handover notes for morning staff.
13. Operate transport management systems (TMS) and fleet tracking software.

Minimum Requirements:

• At least two years' experience in a transport planning role, with proficiency in TMS.
• Excellent organizational and planning skills with attention to detail.
• Ability to remain calm under pressure and solve problems proactively.
• Effective communication skills, especially with independent night drivers.
• Understanding of logistics, transport legislation, and driver compliance.
• Ability to work independently and make decisions during night shifts.
• Proficiency in relevant software applications.
• Full, valid UK driving licence.
• Transport Manager CPC (preferred).
