Job summary

First Bus Huddersfield is seeking an organised Engineering Chargehand to join the busy Huddersfield Depot. You will supervise engineering staff, allocate work, and monitor daily depot operations to ensure excellent service.

The role requires experience in supervisory duties, a full PCV and driving licence, and a strong IT literacy. Nightshift hours are Sunday to Thursday, 10pm–6am, with overtime rates available.

Qualifications

• Minimum level 3 NVQ or equivalent in Vehicle Repair.
• Fully conversant with safe operation of workshop equipment.
• Supervisory experience would be beneficial.
• Good IT literacy and a full driving licence are required.

Responsibilities

• Provide guidance to staff as required.
• Allocate planned and unplanned work to engineering staff.
• Manage labour overtime per authorisation limits.
• Carry out repairs and diagnosis on vehicles as needed.
• Comply with HS&E legislation and First Group policies.
• Update the vehicle status board and garage log as changes occur.
• Liaise with operations to handle changeovers and breakdowns efficiently.
