Job summary

First Bus is seeking an organized and experienced Engineering Chargehand to join the Bristol Hengrove Depot. You will supervise engineering staff, monitor daily depot operations and ensure a high standard of service.

The role requires minimum Level 3 NVQ in Vehicle Repair or equivalent, a full driving licence and ideally a PCV (and forklift) licence. The department offers a career path and opportunities to develop engineering skills.

Qualifications

• Minimum Level 3 NVQ in Vehicle Repair or City & Guilds Level 1/2 equivalents.
• Strong IT literacy and familiarity with workshop equipment.

Responsibilities

• Provide guidance to other staff as required.
• Allocate planned and unplanned work to engineering staff.
• Manage labour overtime within authorised limits.
• Carry out repairs and diagnosis on vehicles as required.
• Comply with HS&E legislation and First Group policies.
• Update the vehicle status board and garage log.
• Coordinate with operations to minimise downtime during changes and breakdowns.
• Oversee vehicle cleaning, fuelling, oil checks and parking when needed.
• Process vehicle defect cards per standard operating procedures.
