Job summary

Veterinary Specialists Scotland (VSS) in Livingston is seeking a Night Veterinary Surgeon to join our 7pm–7am overnight team. The role oversees inpatients, assesses emergencies and supports specialist clinicians, with a strong emphasis on high-quality patient care and clinical autonomy.

This brand-new position offers a 7 nights on / 14 nights off pattern, pro rata compensation of £60,000 per annum, and access to a highly experienced nursing and specialist team for night-time decision-making.

Qualifications

• Qualified veterinary surgeon with clinical experience in overnight care.
• Experience in emergency presentations is beneficial.
• Ability to make clinical decisions and manage inpatients overnight.

Responsibilities

• Assess and manage emergency presentations.
• Monitor hospitalised patients and adapt treatment plans.
• Make confident clinical decisions and manage cases overnight.
• Communicate clearly with clients regarding their pets’ care.
• Work closely with our experienced nursing team.
• Liaise with Specialists when additional advice or support is required.
• Contribute to a positive, collaborative team culture.
• Continue developing your confidence in emergency presentations, inpatient management and overnight decision-making.
