Job summary

Gist is seeking a Night Transport Shift Manager to run the night transport operations at Thatcham. You will lead and develop the team, manage recruitment and performance, and ensure safe, efficient service delivery across the night shift.

You will report to the Transport Operations Manager and drive improvements while fostering a positive, collaborative environment for agency staff and subcontractors.

Qualifications

• Proven hands-on experience within a transport function, ideally FMCG Distribution.
• Previous experience operating at management level.
• Strong people management skills and a genuine passion for developing your team.
• An analytical mindset with the ability to turn performance data into action.
• A collaborative approach with the confidence to build relationships across the operation.
• Flexibility to work a variety of shift patterns.
• Experience in a unionised environment would be beneficial, but not essential.
• Transport CPC is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Lead from the front, creating a safe, supportive and friendly working environment for employees, agency colleagues and subcontractors.
• Develop people by ownership of recruitment, induction, absence management, wellbeing, 1:1s and employee relations processes.
• Run effective team meetings, briefings, objectives and cross-communication across transport operations.
• Drive performance by owning KPIs and identifying opportunities to improve productivity and service.
• Champion teamwork and innovation, encouraging suggestions and new ways of working.
• Advocate and lead health and safety, compliance and standards in transport operations.
• Support wider operations by collaborating with the Transport Operations Manager on value-adding tasks.
