Job summary

Discovery is seeking a Waking Night Floating Support Worker to provide consistent, person-centred care across South Somerset, working predominantly as a lone worker during night shifts. The role involves supporting people with learning disabilities and a range of needs, while maintaining safety and independence through flexible, location-spanning assignments.

You will travel between services, adapt to changing needs, and deliver high-quality support with initiative and professionalism.

Qualifications

• Hold a full UK driving licence.
• Have access to own vehicle.
• Able to travel across South Somerset to support different services.
• Confident working independently and making informed decisions.
• Flexible, adaptable and reliable.
• Previous experience within social care or support work.
• Experience supporting people with complex needs.
• Experience as a lone worker.
• Knowledge of person-centred support approaches.

Responsibilities

• Provide emotional support, reassurance and guidance throughout the night.
• Complete regular welfare and wellbeing checks.
• Support individuals with personal care where required.
• Assist with mobility and moving and assisting tasks.
• Support with medication administration.
• Promote choice, dignity, independence and wellbeing.
• Respond appropriately to situations that may arise during the night.
• Maintain a safe and welcoming environment by updating records and notes.
• Undertake cleaning and domestic tasks and prepare the home for the day ahead.
