Job summary

Northern in Newcastle upon Tyne is recruiting for a proactive Engineering Team Leader to supervise Train Cleaners, ensuring trains are clean, safe and ready for service every day.

You will lead from the front, manage workloads on night shifts, enforce health and safety, and develop a resilient team capable of delivering consistently high standards in all weather conditions aboard trains.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Team Leader or Supervisor, with the ability to direct a team and own shift outcomes.
• Tech-savvy and comfortable using digital devices, apps and systems to track progress and report updates.
• Hands-on, physically active leadership role requiring active participation with the team.
• Strong health and safety mindset with ability to enforce procedures and call out unsafe practices.
• Clear, effective communication with teams and wider operations.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support a team of Train Cleaners to deliver spotless trains and clean environments.
• Organise workloads, assign tasks, and communicate priorities under tight deadlines.
• Work with the team on intensive cleaning tasks and uphold high standards.
• Ensure health and safety procedures are followed when handling chemicals, equipment, and site rules.
• Create a positive, accountable atmosphere and support newcomers and experienced staff alike.
