We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Mental Health Nurse role at HMP Lewes. HMP Lewes is a category B male prison located near the centre of Lewes, a historic town just a 5-minute walk away.

We are seeking a dedicated Senior Mental Health Nurse to join our team at HMP Lewes. The role involves working 37.5 hours per week, with shifts from 7pm to 7:30am, on a pattern of 3 shifts per week for three weeks, and 4 shifts in the fourth week.

Salary: Up to £52,259 per annum, depending on experience.

Candidates must have the legal right to work in the UK. Due to the nature of the role, offers of employment are subject to additional vetting and security checks.

Main duties of the job
  • Lead a multidisciplinary team to deliver a nurse-led service and prevent hospital admissions
  • Undertake medication rounds and dispense controlled medication
  • Respond to emergency situations
  • Assess patients and undertake reception screening
  • Assess health needs using evidence-based frameworks and perform risk assessments
  • Assess physical and mental health of prisoners on admission and during custody for appropriate referrals
  • Make clinical judgments regarding immediate and long-term treatment needs
