Healthcare Assistant Sussex, BN8 Day & Night Shifts Available

We are seeking compassionate and confident carers to provide support for a lovely gentleman in Sussex, BN8. This is an excellent opportunity to join a consistent and friendly team supporting someone who enjoys companionship, culture, and a good conversation.

About The Role

You’ll be supporting a male client in his own home with personal care, mobility, and day-to-day tasks. He is a sociable and thoughtful individual with a high-level Spinal Cord Injury (SCI). He enjoys music, conversation, and traditional Brazilian meals. Portuguese is his native language, and while he speaks English, he is most comfortable communicating in Portuguese.

He lives independently with a rota that includes two carers during the day and carer support overnight. The care team is a mix of carers who have worked with him previously and new team members joining to build a consistent setup. Night care is important as he is a light sleeper and requires repositioning support throughout the night.

Due to the intimate nature of the personal care required, and to ensure the client’s privacy and dignity, this role is open to female carers only. This is a genuine occupational requirement permitted under Schedule 9, Paragraph 1 of the Equality Act 2010.

As His Carer, You Will Be

• Assisting with personal care requests (female carer required)
• Supporting with medication prompts (as directed by the RN)
• Facilitating hoisted transfers and repositioning alongside another carer
• Assisting with daily stretches and exercise routines
• Preparing meals he enjoys, including traditional Brazilian dishes
• Supporting communication, primarily in Portuguese, though English is also spoken
• Providing companionship and emotional support
• Being aware that he has a suprapubic catheter, which is changed weekly by the RN
• Working as part of a rota with both existing and new carers

Job Details:

Job Type

• Day shifts: 8am - 8pm (weekdays and weekends)
• Waking night shifts: 8pm - 8am

Pay Rate

• £15.00 per hour for weekday day shifts
• £18.00 per hour for weekend day shifts and all waking night shifts

Location: Sussex, BN8 (near Lewes / Brighton) with easy parking at the property

Driver: Helpful due to rural location

Start Date: To be confirmed

What We're Looking For

A calm, friendly, and professional female support worker who is confident working within a team. The client values consistency, cultural connection, and a relaxed but attentive approach. Speaking Portuguese or having an interest in Brazilian culture is a bonus. Experience with hoisting or SCI care is helpful but not essential.

Training & Support

We are a specialist provider of Spinal Cord Injury and complex Neurological care and will provide full training to support you in caring for this gentleman, so prior SCI experience isn’t essential. We'll equip you with the knowledge and skills needed to deliver excellent care.
