Job summary

Arriva plc is seeking a Running Shift Engineer to manage safe and efficient operation, maintenance, and fault resolution of rolling stock during service hours. You will perform proactive and reactive maintenance, respond to in-service failures, and document repairs to minimise passenger disruption.

The role requires an engineering qualification (NVQ Level 3 or equivalent, plus HNC/HND), experience in railway maintenance, and ability to work shifts including nights and weekends.

Qualifications

• Recognised engineering qualification in mechanical, electrical, or railway engineering.
• Experience maintaining rolling stock and fault finding in railway environments.
• Ability to read engineering drawings and manuals.
• Proficient with diagnostic tools for railway maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Conduct proactive and reactive maintenance on rolling stock, including inspections, diagnostics, and repairs.
• Respond to in-service failures and faults; identify root causes and restore service.
• Document maintenance activities and fault reports accurately.
• Coordinate with crew, control room, and depot staff to resolve issues.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry standards.
