Job summary

ESS Employment Ltd in Stroud, Gloucestershire, is seeking a CNC Operator for night shift. The role involves operating CNC machines, performing health checks, and maintaining quality through careful attention to drawings and specifications.

You will collaborate with engineering and production teams to meet delivery dates while upholding safety and process standards. The position offers a permanent contract with night hours from 10pm–5am (Mon–Thu) and Fri 5pm–10:30pm, 37.5 hours weekly.

Qualifications

• GCSEs or 1–3 months related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Basic CNC programming and machine competence.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to read and understand engineering drawings.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings and blueprints with precision.

Responsibilities

• Operate one or more CNC machines in the Cell.
• Complete daily machine health check lists.
• Book travellers, manage documents in the Cell.
• Stamp own work and report NCRs (Non‑Conformance Reports).
• Assist with other duties as required by Production Team Leader.
• Maintain a safe and tidy work environment.
• Participate in training when required.
• Minimise scrap components.
• Mentor and support new staff or apprentices in the Machine Shop.
• Collaborate with Production Team Leader and Manager to meet delivery dates.
• Communicate workshop issues to CNC Setter / Charge Hand and Team Leader.
