Pimlico Banks are recruiting an Infrastructure & Network Engineer to join the IT Infrastructure team in Birmingham. This hands-on contract role covers a large estate, supporting upgrades across networking, security, virtualization and Linux servers.

We value strong networking, Linux experience and willingness to travel to other sites. The role is primarily onsite with some out-of-hours work and occasional travel.

Qualifications

Pimlico Banks are recruiting an Infrastructure & Network Engineer to join the IT Infrastructure team of an established organisation in Birmingham.

This is a hands-on contract role working across a large and varied infrastructure estate, supporting a number of infrastructure upgrade and modernisation projects across networking, security, virtualisation and physical Linux server environments.

We're looking for someone with good commercial Infrastructure and Network Engineering experience who can contribute from the outset, but there will also be the opportunity to work alongside a very experienced technical team.

This isn't a Windows Server-focused infrastructure position. We're particularly interested in engineers with strong networking skills and hands‑on experience working with Linux server environments.

The role will involve:

• Supporting network upgrade and modernisation projects
• Configuring and troubleshooting switches, routers and firewalls
• Working with Cisco networking technologies
• Supporting Check Point and wider network security environments
• Working with SD-WAN infrastructure
• Building and commissioning physical servers
• Installing and configuring Linux server environments
• Supporting virtualised environments
• Server patching and general infrastructure maintenance
• Troubleshooting network, server and infrastructure issues
• Installing servers and network equipment at other sites when required
• Supporting testing and evaluation of new infrastructure technologies
• Maintaining technical documentation and following security processes

We're looking for someone who:

• Has good commercial Infrastructure and Network Engineering experience
• Has a strong understanding of TCP/IP, VLANs, routing and switching
• Has hands‑on experience configuring and troubleshooting network equipment
• Has experience working with Linux servers
• Is comfortable working with physical server hardware
• Has experience with firewalls and network security
• Has exposure to virtualisation
• Is comfortable getting involved in installations, upgrades and project work
• Has strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Is willing to travel to other sites occasionally when required
• Holds a valid driving licence

Experience with Cisco, Check Point, SD-WAN and Linux would be particularly useful, although we're not expecting someone to have worked with every technology.

You'll be joining a highly experienced infrastructure team with extensive knowledge across networking, servers and security.

The role is predominantly onsite in Birmingham, with a minimum of three days per week onsite. There will also be occasional travel to other locations and some out-of-hours work where required.
