Job summary

VIQU IT in Stoke-on-Trent is seeking an experienced Network Engineer for a 9-month contract to support the day-to-day operation, maintenance and development of a business-critical network infrastructure. The role demands hands-on ownership of network support and troubleshooting, with mentoring and knowledge transfer to the existing team.

Key responsibilities include supporting switching, VLANs and FortiGate environments, managing incidents and service recovery, and planning upgrades and hardware

Qualifications

• Experience in network engineering and infrastructure support.
• Hands-on with switching, VLANs and network troubleshooting.
• FortiGate firewall administration and support.
• Experience with Cisco, Allied Telesis or similar networking technologies.
• Experience managing network incidents, recovery and infrastructure changes.
• Understanding of network upgrades, migrations and hardware replacements.
• Desirable experience: Allied Telesis switching, Hyper-V and OpenShift environments, Zscaler, monitoring tools (PRTG/Zabbix), IA services, manufacturing environments, CAB/change management processes.

Responsibilities

• Provide hands-on network support, maintenance and troubleshooting across the existing infrastructure.
• Support switching, VLANs, routing and FortiGate firewall environments.
• Manage network incidents, fault resolution and service recovery.
• Plan and implement network changes, upgrades and infrastructure improvements.
• Provide technical leadership, coaching and knowledge transfer to the existing engineering team.
• Support network projects, including 1Gb to 10Gb core upgrades, switch replacements and credential refreshes.
• Ensure network changes are properly documented and managed through CAB processes.
• Work collaboratively with infrastructure teams to maintain a stable and secure network environment.

Network Engineer – 9-month contract – Stoke-on-Trent

My Customer is seeking an experienced Network Engineer to support the day-to-day operation, maintenance and development of a business-critical network infrastructure.

This role will suit a technically strong, hands-on engineer who can take ownership of network support and troubleshooting while providing technical guidance, mentoring and knowledge transfer to the existing engineering team.

Technical Experience from the Network Engineer

• Strong experience in network engineering and infrastructure support.
• Hands-on experience with switching, VLANs and network troubleshooting.
• FortiGate firewall administration and support.
• Experience with Cisco, Allied Telesis or similar networking technologies.
• Experience managing network incidents, recovery and infrastructure changes.
• Understanding of network upgrades, migrations and hardware replacements.

The Network Engineer is required to work at least 4 days a week onsite in Stoke-on-Trent.
