Job summary

Devon County Council is seeking an experienced Incorporated Engineer to lead the Northern Devon Neighbourhood Highway Team, guiding highway maintenance, traffic management and local projects. You will provide technical judgment and help turn local priorities into practical solutions.

The role emphasises leadership, collaboration with Members and communities, and a commitment to public service, with hybrid working options and a focus on safety and resilience of Devon's roads.

Qualifications

• Incorporated Engineer status is required.
• Experience in highway maintenance, traffic management or engineering.
• Ability to lead, mentor or manage others.
• Customer-focused approach to community engagement.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support the Northern Devon Neighbourhood Highway Team.
• Provide clear technical advice on highways and traffic management.
• Deliver local maintenance programmes and highway projects.
• Build strong relationships with Members, councils and communities.
• Coordinate local responses to winter and emergency events.
• Manage workloads, resources and performance.
• Take responsibility for financial management and reporting of locally managed maintenance programmes.
