Job summary

The Ashmolean Museum, part of the Gardens, Libraries and Museums (GLAM) at the University of Oxford, is seeking a part-time Security Officer to join our professional security team. The role combines security, customer service and operational support to protect collections while welcoming staff, visitors and contractors.

Working 30 hours per week, Friday to Monday 09:45–17:15, you will patrol, monitor entrances, manage access control and operate CCTV and life-safety systems.

Qualifications

• Previous security experience is not required; training provided.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Good attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
• Willingness to work flexible patterns and operational requirements.

Responsibilities

• Conduct patrols and monitor entrances.
• Operate CCTV, intruder detection and life safety systems.
• Respond to incidents, emergencies and alarms.
• Carry out first aid and fire warden duties.
• Support risk assessments, evacuations and safety checks.
• Assist with reception duties, deliveries and visitor enquiries.
• Support events and contractors; contribute to opening/closing procedures.
