Job summary

JDR Recruitment is seeking a Shift Engineer (Multi-Skilled) to join a manufacturing site in Bridgwater. The role focuses on providing first-response engineering support to maintain PET extrusion, thermoforming and related equipment, combining mechanical and electrical fault-finding in a hands-on capacity.

The successful candidate will diagnose, repair, and perform planned maintenance, driving reliability improvements while adhering to safe engineering practices.

Qualifications

• Multi-skilled engineering background with mechanical and electrical fault-finding capability.
• Experience in manufacturing, FMCG, plastics, packaging or process industries.
• Strong fault diagnosis and root cause analysis skills.
• Experience with motors, drives, sensors, pneumatics, hydraulics and control systems.
• Ability to read engineering drawings and technical documentation.
• Experience using CMMS or maintenance management systems.
• Ability to prioritise workload and perform under pressure during breakdown situations.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• HNC, apprenticeship or equivalent engineering qualification.

Responsibilities

• Provide first-line response to equipment breakdowns across PET extrusion, thermoforming and ancillary systems.
• Diagnose, test, repair and maintain mechanical and electrical equipment.
• Carry out reactive maintenance, running repairs and root cause analysis to minimise downtime.
• Complete planned preventative maintenance activities and update CMMS records accurately.
• Service, adjust and repair machinery using safe engineering practices.
• Support production start-ups, shutdowns and line optimisation activities.
• Identify equipment reliability issues and implement corrective actions.
• Work with OEMs and external suppliers to resolve technical issues.
• Apply 5 Why, RCA and other problem-solving tools to eliminate recurring failures.
