Northern is seeking a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer for Shipley TrainCare Centre. You will diagnose faults, repair trains and ensure all work meets strict safety standards in a safety-critical environment. The role involves days, nights and weekend shifts to keep trains moving 24/7.

If transitioning from the armed forces, your discipline and hands-on engineering experience will be highly valued as you contribute to a safe, high‑performing team journey from day one.

Qualifications

• Recognised apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 in engineering or equivalent military qualifications.
• Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical systems.
• Ability to read and follow technical and safety instructions.
• Confidence working independently and managing your own workload.
• Good communication skills and a team-focused approach.
• Commitment to safety and high standards of workmanship.

Responsibilities

• Deliver planned servicing, maintenance, repair and overhaul of trains and components to facility standards.
• Diagnose faults and apply mechanical and electrical knowledge to fix them.
• Complete work with accurate, accountable sign-off and documentation.
• Collaborate with Team Leader to prioritise and progress tasks.
• Maintain a clean, safe and well-organised work area.
• Provide on-the-job guidance to apprentices and trainees.
