Job summary

Mars Wrigley Plymouth is seeking a Multi Skilled Technician with a strong electrical bias to maintain plant equipment and fix mechanical and electrical issues across the site.

You will work nights, Mon-Fri 10pm–6am, 40 hours per week, focusing on automation control and PLC/HMI systems while benefiting from Mars' development opportunities and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• Engineering Foundation: HNC in Electrical, Automation, or Multi-Skilled Engineering, or equivalent qualification.
• Automation & Electrical Problem-Solving: diagnose and resolve complex electrical and automation issues in manufacturing.
• Maintenance & Reliability Expertise: preventative and reactive maintenance with focus on uptime.
• Collaborative & Results-Driven: work across teams and manage competing demands.

Responsibilities

• Automation & Electrical Troubleshooting: diagnose and resolve faults in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• Plant-Wide Technical Support: on-shift support, troubleshooting PLC/servo/HMI.
• Preventative & Reactive Maintenance: planned maintenance, repairs, and breakdown response to maximise performance.
• Continuous Improvement: identify and implement maintenance and fault-resolution improvements.
• Maintenance Documentation: keep accurate records of maintenance work and system performance.
• Training & Knowledge Sharing: coach operators and apprentices to develop technical capability.

The Role

The primary responsibility of the role is to maintain plant equipment and fix mechanical / electrical issues sitewide. For this role a strong electrical bias with control / automation skill will be required, along with an intermediate level of mechanical expertise.

What We’re Looking For

• Engineering Foundation: Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Electrical, Automation, or Multi-Skilled Engineering, or equivalent qualification supported by relevant practical experience.
• Automation & Electrical Problem-Solving: Proven ability to diagnose and resolve complex electrical and automation issues within a fast-paced manufacturing or production environment.
• Maintenance & Reliability Expertise: Experience carrying out preventative and reactive maintenance activities, with a focus on maximising equipment performance and minimising downtime.
• Collaborative & Results-Driven: Strong problem-solving, communication, and prioritisation skills, with the ability to work effectively across teams and manage competing demands.

Key Responsibilities

• Automation & Electrical Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve complex automation and electrical faults in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• Plant-Wide Technical Support: Provide on-shift support, including overtime cover where required, to troubleshoot and resolve PLC, servo, HMI, and related control system issues.
• Preventative & Reactive Maintenance: Carry out planned preventative maintenance, equipment inspections, repairs, and breakdown response activities to maximise operational performance.
• Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement improvements to maintenance processes, reliability, and fault resolution activities.
• Maintenance Documentation: Maintain accurate records and detailed reports of maintenance work, repairs, and system performance.
• Training & Knowledge Sharing: Coach and support operators, technicians, and apprentices to develop technical capability and promote best practices.
