MorePeople are recruiting for a Multi-Skilled Shift Engineer to join a well-established food manufacturing business at its Leicester site. Working in a busy automated environment, you will maintain plant and equipment, respond to breakdowns and help maximise production uptime while upholding food safety and health & safety standards.

The role requires strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding skills and night shift experience.

Qualifications

• Experience in a multi-skilled maintenance role within food manufacturing.
• Strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding skills.
• Experience with automated machinery and production equipment.
• Previous experience working night shifts.
• Knowledge of preventative maintenance and continuous improvement.
• Understanding of food safety, health and safety and good manufacturing practices.
• Strong communication skills under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventive maintenance and reactive maintenance across mechanical and electrical equipment.
• Diagnose faults and perform repairs to minimise downtime.
• Maintain machinery and site services for safe operation.
• Collaborate with production teams to improve equipment performance.
• Investigate breakdowns and identify root causes.
• Keep accurate maintenance records and shift handovers.
• Cooperate with third-party contractors when needed.
• Support safe operation of automated production equipment.

Multi-Skilled Shift Engineer

Location: Glenfield, Leicester (LE3)
Salary: Negotiable, dependent on skills and experience
Shift Pattern: 4 on, 4 off | Days and Nights
Contract: Permanent, Full-Time

The Opportunity

We're recruiting for a Multi-Skilled Shift Engineer to join a well-established food manufacturing business at its site in Leicester.

This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer with a strong mechanical and electrical skill set to join a busy, automated manufacturing environment, supporting production and ensuring machinery and site services operate safely and efficiently.

The Role

Working as part of the engineering team, you'll be responsible for maintaining plant and equipment, responding to breakdowns and helping to maximise production uptime.

Key responsibilities include:

• Carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance across mechanical and electrical equipment.

• Diagnosing faults and carrying out effective repairs to minimise downtime.

• Maintaining machinery, equipment and tools to ensure safe and reliable operation.

• Working closely with production teams to improve equipment performance and reliability.

• Investigating breakdowns, identifying root causes and preventing recurring faults.

• Maintaining accurate maintenance records, engineering KPIs and shift handovers.

• Supporting continuous improvement and effective asset care programmes.

• Ensuring compliance with health and safety procedures, permits to work and food safety standards.

• Coordinating third-party contractors where required.

• Supporting the safe and efficient operation of automated production equipment and site services.

About You

We're looking for a proactive, hands-on engineer who can work independently, solve problems logically and thrive in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

You'll ideally have:

• Experience in a multi-skilled maintenance engineering role within food manufacturing.

• Strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding skills.

• Experience working with automated machinery and production equipment.

• Previous experience working night shifts.

• Knowledge of preventative maintenance and continuous improvement.

• An understanding of food safety, health and safety and good manufacturing practices.

• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively under pressure.

Bakery experience is desirable but not essential.

Shift Pattern

A continental-style 4 on, 4 off rotation:

• 2 day shifts: 6:00am-6:00pm.

• 2 night shifts: 6:00pm-6:00am.

• 4 days off.
