Job summary

Geary’s Bakeries Ltd in Leicestershire seeks a Multi-Skilled Shift Engineer to join our 24/7 bakery operations on a permanent, full-time basis. You will report to the Engineering Shift Manager and ensure plant and services operate safely, efficiently and within regulatory standards.

You will perform electrical and mechanical maintenance, support production to minimise downtime, investigate breakdowns and coordinate third-party activity across two sites, while upholding CMMS and shift-handover

Qualifications

• Experience of multi-skilled engineering within food manufacturing.
• Knowledge of mechanical, electrical and building maintenance systems.
• Understanding of Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement.

Responsibilities

• Electrical and mechanical maintenance of assets at both sites (planned and reactive).
• Ensure machinery is safe to use and maintained to target performance.
• Minimise downtime by proactive maintenance with production teams.
• Investigate breakdowns and establish causes for faults.
• Record repairs and actions to identify recurrent issues.
• Ensure safe use of materials and compliance with PTW, SOP, H&S, GMP.
• Maintain CMMS, PMs, shift handovers, audits, and safety reviews.
• Coordinate third-party engineering activity and site safety.

Multi Skilled Shift Engineer

Shift Pattern: 6AM - 6PM THEN 6PM – 6AM, 4 On / 4 Off

Location: Glenfield, Leicester (LE3)

Salary: Negotiable, dependant on skills and experience

The Role

We are currently looking for Multi-Skilled Shift Engineers to join our team on a permanent, full-time basis. Reporting to the Engineering Shift Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring plant and services perform safely, effectively and efficiently in order to support our manufacturing and supply chain operations. You will also ensure our maintenance and engineering systems fully comply with all legal, regulatory, customer and company requirements.

• Electrical and mechanical maintenance (both planned and reactive) of all assets at both sites
• Ensuring all machinery, equipment and tools are maintained for safe use to achieve performance targets and taken care of through effective asset care and maintenance programmes
• Work closely with the production team to ensure that machinery downtime is kept to a minimum and that all preventative maintenance is conducted in advance to avoid disruption
• Providing support in investigating and establishing causes for all breakdowns and damages
• Action any necessary repairs and ensure all measures taken are recorded so recurrent faults can be recognised
• Ensuring the safe and efficient use of all materials used (including consumables, lubricants, chemicals etc)
• Ensuring use of correct methods, tools and procedures to achieve performance targets (including compliance with PTW’s, SOP’s, H&S, GMP standards etc)
• Maintenance of effective engineering systems (including KPI systems - CMMS, PM’s, shift-handover processes, DMR, safety reviews, audits, etc)
• Ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all people on both sites
• Controlling and co-ordinating of third-party engineering activity

Skills and Experience

• Experience of multi-skilled engineering within food manufacturing. You must be pro-active, assertive and have a strong work ethic.
• Functional engineering skills around mechanical, electrical and building maintenance systems (including control systems, gas electrical and air services)
• A working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement principles and approaches, and experience in successful implementation of Lean disciplines in a scale food organisation
• Good manufacturing processes and principles, engineering design and operational principles, H&S regulations, CDM regulations, environmental regulations
• Ability to manage multiple people interactions, strategic and tactical issues and deal with situations that can be challenging and time-constrained
• Prior experience working as a night shift engineer
• Automated site experience
• Understanding of food safety values
• Excellent communication skills
• Logical, methodical work approach
• Bakery experience is desirable but not a necessity.
