Job summary

Freightliner is seeking a Multi Skilled Operative (Nights) in Southampton to support loading/unloading HGVs, shunting containers and operating lifting equipment. Training will be provided in all lifting equipment and internal systems, and no prior experience is required beyond a valid UK driving licence.

DBS checks apply to successful appointments. Role offers 50 hours per week with rotating night shifts (6pm–4am or 8pm–6am), permanent and full-time.

Qualifications

• Holder of full UK driving licence.
• Deep understanding of the importance of health and safety; uphold a safe approach to tasks.
• It's great, but not required, if you have forklift experience or container industry experience.

Responsibilities

• Stack shipping containers.
• Shunt containers to and from terminal safely.
• Operate container handling equipment effectively.

Hours of work: 50 hours per week, with shifts from 6pm to 4am or 8pm to 6am on a rotating schedule from Monday to Friday.

The role

With a new state of art infrastructure and recent investment in VBS and technology we are looking for the right individual to support our Operations team in Southampton.

As a Multi Skilled Operative you will be responsible for loading and unloading HGV vehicles in the yard using top-spec and the newest lifting equipment ranging from 2.5 tonnes to 72 tonnes, shunting containers to and from the terminal, driving TUG equipment, working as a team and getting involved in a variety of projects. You will be using bespoke technology to guide you through the day, all while sharing our culture and belief of health and safety being the number one priority.

The successful candidate will undergo comprehensive training in operating all lifting equipment and utilising internal systems and technology therefore previous experience is not required.

Key responsibilities

• To service vehicles with the correct containers and in a timely manner.
• Stack shipping containers.
• Ensure containers are shunted to and from terminal in a timely manner.
• Effectively and safely operate container handling equipment.
• Communicate with yard team and container controllers to ensure efficient working and accuracy in terms of the correct container timing and availability.
• Maintain H&S standards.

About you

Holder of full UK driving licence

Deep understanding of the importance of health and safety and be committed to always upholding a safe approach to all tasks.

It's great, but not required, if you:

• Have previous forklift experience.
• Have previous container industry experience.
