Job summary

Freightliner is seeking a Multi Skilled Operative in Southampton to support the Operations team. You will load and unload HGVs, shunt containers, and operate lifting equipment while using bespoke technology in a safety‑critical environment.

No prior experience required as comprehensive training is provided. The role offers a permanent, full‑time contract, 50 hours per week across 6am–4pm shifts on a rotating Monday‑Friday schedule, with pension, life cover, paid breaks and career development

Hours of work: 50 hours per week, with shifts from 6am to 4pm on a rotating schedule from Monday to Friday.

The role

With a new state of art infrastructure and recent investment in Vehicle Booking System (VBS) and technology, we are looking for the right individual to join and support our Operations team in Southampton.

As a Multi Skilled Operative, you will be responsible for loading and unloading HGV vehicles in the yard using industry-leading lifting equipment ranging from 2.5 tonnes to 72 tonnes. You will also shunt containers to and from the terminal, operate TUG equipment, work as a team and contribute to a variety of projects.

You will utilise bespoke technology to support your daily activities, while sharing our culture where health and safety is the number one priority.

The successful candidate will undergo comprehensive training in operating all lifting equipment and utilising internal systems and technology, therefore previous experience is not required.

Key responsibilities

• Service vehicles with the correct containers in a safe and timely manner.
• Stack and move shipping containers.
• Shunt containers to and from the terminal.
• Operate container-handling equipment safely and effectively.
• Communicate with yard team and Terminal Coordinators to ensure efficient operations and the timely availability of the correct containers.
• Maintain highest standards of health and safety at all time.

About you

• Hold a full UK driving licenc.e
• Have a strong understanding of the importance of health and safety and demonstrate a commitment to maintaining safe working practices.

It’s great, but not required, if you:

• Have previous forklift operating experience.
• Have experience working within the container or logistics industry.
