Job summary

Zest is recruiting a Multi-Skilled Engineer for the night shift at our food manufacturing site. You will lead the engineering on nights, drive breakdown response, maintenance excellence and continuous improvement across site.

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will be the senior engineering presence on shift, taking full responsibility for team performance and hands-on with equipment. You'll apply strong mechanical and electrical expertise, lead CI activities, manage PPM/CMMS, and ensure

Qualifications

• Manufacturing or food production engineering experience.
• Strong mechanical and electrical diagnostics.
• Leadership or supervisory background with formal apprenticeship or NVQ/HNC.

Responsibilities

• Prioritising maintenance and breakdown activity to maximise uptime
• Acting as the key decision-maker and point of contact on site overnight
• Carrying out fault-finding, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis
• Implementing and optimising PPM schedules, with accurate CMMS and stock control
• Identifying engineering upgrades that improve efficiency, sustainability, and OEE
• Supporting capital projects and new machinery integration
• Working cross-functionally with production and factory management
• Ensuring full compliance with health and safety, including PUWER, LOLER, and DSEAR

Commutable from Ramsey, Huntingdon, St Ives, Peterborough, Chatteris, March and St Neots

Salary: £50,000 - £60,000

Shifts: 4 on 4 off, 3pm to 3am, or Monday to Friday, 5pm to 2am

We're recruiting on behalf of a well-established food manufacturing business for a Multi-Skilled Engineer to lead engineering on nights, driving breakdown response, maintenance excellence, and continuous improvement across site.

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you'll be the senior engineering presence on shift, taking full responsibility for team performance and working hands‑on alongside your engineers on factory equipment.

What you'll be doing:

• Prioritising maintenance and breakdown activity to maximise uptime
• Acting as the key decision‑maker and point of contact on site overnight
• Carrying out fault‑finding, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis
• Implementing and optimising PPM schedules, with accurate CMMS and stock control
• Identifying engineering upgrades that improve efficiency, sustainability, and OEE

What we're looking for:

• Engineering experience in manufacturing or food production
• Strong mechanical and electrical knowledge, with first‑class diagnostics
• Experience with PPM, reliability‑centred maintenance, and CI techniques
• Previous leadership or supervisory experience
• A time‑served apprenticeship or formal qualification (NVQ Level 3, HNC, or equivalent)
