Job summary

ETS Consulting is seeking a Multi-Skilled Engineer for a Blackburn site. The role involves maintaining and optimising food processing machinery, performing scheduled and reactive maintenance, and reducing downtime across 4-on/4-off shifts.

You will work with a small, skilled team, carry out PPMs, log fault data for root-cause analysis, and liaise with the Engineering Manager to ensure parts availability. A strong electrical/mechanical background in FMCG is essential.

Qualifications

• Apprenticeship in Electrical Engineering with relevant qualifications.
• Strong electrical and mechanical knowledge, especially on food processing machinery.
• Experience with fault-finding in FMCG environments and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Report to shift Team Leader and work with Factory and Production Managers to minimize downtime.
• Work within a small team of multi-disciplined engineers to perform maintenance tasks.
• Undertake preventative maintenance (PPMs) on equipment to prevent production disruption.
• Log repairs and actions to recognise recurrent faults and implement countermeasures.
• Coordinate with Engineering Manager and Senior Engineer to ensure parts availability.
• Minimise downtime after machine breakdowns and support rapid recovery.
• Comply with health, safety and environmental policies and champion H&S initiatives.
• Assist with continuous improvement of processes and practices on site.

Salary: £48,000 + Benefits Package

Continental Shift Pattern - Hours: 4 on 4 off days/nights, 12-hour shift 6am/6pm 6pm/6am (No Saturday nights on schedule)

The Company

Based within one of the UKs leading privately owned specialist food manufacturing groups, they are an extremely well established manufacturing group with over 50 years of food production knowledge, and they are looking to recruit an experienced maintenance engineer to add to their existing team.

Main Responsibilities

• Reporting to the shift Team Leader, you will work closely with the Factory Manager and Production Managers to ensure that machinery downtime is kept to a minimum and that all preventative maintenance is conducted in advance to avoid production disruption.
• Work as part of a small team of multi-disciplined engineers
• Undertake PPMs on equipment
• Action repairs and ensure all measures taken are recorded so recurrent faults can be recognised
• Liaise with the Engineering Manager and Senior Engineer to ensure the supply of appropriate parts
• Minimise the amount of downtime suffered by the site following machine breakdowns
• Comply with all health, safety and environmental policies and procedures
• Champion H&S matters as delegated by the Engineering Manager
• Champion building maintenance as directed by the Engineering Manager
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of processes and practices

Requerements

• Strong Electrical and Mechanical knowledge and ability on Food processing machinery
• Process control knowledge.
• Competent in building electrical control systems from switchgear through to software implementation.
• Engineering apprenticeship and associated qualifications such as BTEC ONC, HNC, HND in Electrical Engineering is essential
• Have a proven track record in an Engineering and fault-finding role gained from within a FMCG environment.
• Drive Root Cause Analysis and strive to prevent re-occurrence with counter measures.
• Multi-skilled in both electrical and mechanical engineering
• PLC fault finding.
