Travail Employment Group are supporting a UK-based manufacturing client in Cambridgeshire with a multi-skilled maintenance engineer role. You will perform both reactive repairs and scheduled PPM across electrical and mechanical assets in a moulding production environment.

The role emphasizes electrical bias with strong focus on continuous improvement, reading wiring diagrams, and following health & safety regulations. On-site position with overtime and a pension scheme offered.

Qualifications

• Recognised apprenticeship or Level 3 vocational qualification (NVQ, City & Guilds, BTEC).
• Cross-skilled with both electrical and mechanical skills in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• Ability to read wiring diagrams, schematics and mechanical drawings.

Responsibilities

• Respond to machinery breakdowns and perform safe, effective repairs to minimize downtime.
• Follow planned preventative maintenance (PPM) schedules and inspect moving parts.
• Fault-find and repair PLC-controlled equipment, inverters and three-phase electrical systems.
• Maintain gearboxes, pumps, valves, bearings and hydraulic/pneumatic circuits.
• Complete work permits and CMMS journaling; follow LOTO procedures.
• Collaborate on new equipment installations and conduct root-cause analysis.

Job description

Our client is looking to increase their engineering team, so an exciting opportunity has become available for a multi-skilled maintenance engineers to join their small engineering team. As a multi-skilled engineer, you will be responsible for conducting conduct planned preventative maintenance (PPM) alongside reactive breakdown repairs across mechanical and electrical assets within their moulding manufacturing moulding facility. This role will be suited to an electrically bias engineer who has a strong focus on continuous improvements.

Key responsibilities

Daily duties of this role will include but not limited to the following:

• Reactive Maintenance: Respond quickly to machinery breakdowns, diagnose electrical or mechanical faults, and complete safe, effective repairs to reduce production downtime.
• Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM): Follow the scheduled service check lists, inspect moving parts, test safety systems, and replace any worn components before failures occur.
• Fault-Finding & Automation: Fault find, troubleshoot and repair PLC-controlled equipment, inverters, drives, sensors, and three-phase electrical systems.
• Mechanical Servicing: Maintain and repair gearboxes, pumps, valves, bearings, pneumatic cylinders, and hydraulic circuits.
• Compliance & Documentation: Complete all relative work including work permits and lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) isolation procedures while logging all activity in the site Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
• Support new projects, identify root-cause analysis for breakdowns and equipment malfunctions, work on new equipment installations in collaboration with operational teams.

To be considered for this role, applicants are required to have the following skills and experience

• Recognised apprenticeship or Level 3 vocational qualification (NVQ, City & Guilds, BTEC).
• Cross-Skilled Competency: Proven hands-on ability to handle both electrical diagnostics and mechanical repairs in a fast-paced environment, 60/40 split towards electrical bias.
• Be experienced in reading wiring diagrams, schematics, and mechanical assembly drawings.
• Safety Compliance: Sound knowledge of health and safety regulations, safe systems of work, risk assessment knowledge and compliance.
• Communication: Be able to communicate confidently with supervisors, operations teams, and external contractors. Be able to complete report writing and update work schedules when required.
• Flexible Approach: Be able to work as part of a team with a mindset to do the job right first time
