Job Summary

Multi Skilled Carpenter based at Hillis Lodge.

Hours: 37.5 hours per week.

Salary: £34,146.75 to £35,489.54 per annum (permanent, full‑time).

Main Duties
  • Undertake maintenance, repair works, installation and minor improvement works across the South Solihull Community estate and other SSL customer properties.
  • Carry out multi‑skilled carpenter tasks: manufacture of purpose‑made joinery, maintenance and repair of fire escapes, fire doors, locks, key cutting, replacement of damaged architectural timberwork, manufacture and hanging doors, fitting kitchen units, fixing notices and signs, manufacturing and fixing shelving.
  • Perform general building works and minor M&E PPM tasks such as emergency light testing, PAT testing, fire extinguisher inspections.
Responsibilities (Operational / Technical)
  • Ensure all repairs are carried out to a good standard, without undue delay, and with due care.
  • Communicate efficiently with Estates and Facilities Managers, Admin team, Trust Managers, Staff, contractors and suppliers.
  • Maintain and update Archibus CAFM system, task lists, data sheets, site drawings and ensure all asset information is up‑to‑date.
  • Accurately complete time sheets daily and prepare detailed lists of materials and spares for maintenance and installations.
  • Monitor critical spares, conduct stock‑taking and general housekeeping.
  • Inspect, check and test plant and equipment; undertake non‑routine reactive maintenance and ensure building efficiency and safety.
  • Ensure safety of mechanical and electrical plant and equipment and observe safe working practices.
  • Remove surplus materials and keep work area clean and tidy after completion.
  • Plan and execute preventive maintenance work promptly, complete required log/record sheets and keep Team Manager informed of any delay.
  • Fault‑find and rectify faults to keep building systems and equipment operational.
  • Provide information for updating or setting up planned preventive maintenance schedules.
  • Secure tools and equipment, especially in patient areas, and raise any unsafe working conditions or unsafe plant to the Team Manager.
  • Participate in emergency on‑call rota, recall procedures, and flexible working across all estates services (electrical, mechanical, plumbing, cleaning, building etc.).
  • Gather and analyse data and undertake work in any SSL property portfolio as required.
Additional Duties
  • Perform any other duties as required, commensurate with the nature and grading of the post.
  • Participate in the on‑call rota and may be asked to cover other sites outside the current area of responsibility.
  • Comply with Trust/SSL Policies and Procedures: Health and Safety, Non‑Smoking, Equal Opportunities in Employment.
Person Specification
  • Knowledge (Essential): 2 years post‑qualifying relevant experience.
  • Knowledge (Desirable): Familiarity with healthcare sector operations; HTM awareness.
  • Skills (Essential): Good knowledge of health & safety; initiative; computer literacy (PC/laptop, tablet/PDA, smartphone, email, Microsoft Word, Excel).
  • Skills (Desirable): Familiarity with other trades within Estates Directorate.
  • Training & Qualifications (Essential): Recognised CITB or EITB apprenticeship with City & Guilds.
  • Training & Qualifications (Desirable): Post‑apprenticeship qualifications; formal certification.
