About The Role

Are you an experienced and proactive engineer who takes pride in delivering quality? SMT GB is looking for a Quality and Support Engineer to join our team in Duxford. This role is crucial in supporting the smooth operation of our workshop, ensuring high standards of safety, quality, and compliance are consistently met.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a strong technical background who's ready to step into a role that combines hands-on engineering with quality monitoring, team guidance, and workshop support.

What you'll be doing:
  • Support the day-to-day running of the workshop, ensuring all work is carried out safely and in line with process.
  • Lead investigations and responses to Delivery Discrepancy Reports (DDRs) and work towards achieving annual KPI targets.
  • Conduct a percentage of machine storage inspections and support with final outgoing machine checks.
  • Carry out PDIs, local preparations, and optional fitments on Volvo machines (e.g., Q-fits, reverse cameras, radios).
  • Assist and monitor five semi-skilled engineers, ensuring a high standard of workmanship and safe methods of work.
  • Deputise for the Workshop Supervisor as needed, including leading team operations.
  • Liaise with customers and internal teams to ensure timely and high-quality machine preparation.
  • Promote and uphold health, safety, and housekeeping standards across the workshop.
Requirements
What we're looking for:
  • A recognised qualification in plant or HGV mechanics.
  • Proven experience in the maintenance and repair of construction equipment, with strong skills across diesel engines, hydraulics, electrics and diagnostics.
  • Root cause analysis skills with the ability to issue corrective actions and prevent reoccurrence.
  • A confident communicator with good team leadership qualities and the ability to support and train others.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to maintain high standards under pressure.
  • Comfortable using PowerPoint or similar to support basic reporting and feedback sessions.
  • A full UK driving licence.
Desirable:
  • Strong understanding of technical literature and service documentation.
  • Knowledge of UK health and safety standards, COSHH regulations and safe workshop practice.
