Job Description

We are seeking a Motorsports Sportscar Data Analyst to apply data science and modeling techniques to develop and refine race strategy tools. The role involves supporting pre-race planning and providing real-time insights during live race events.

Responsibilities
  1. Refine existing AI/ML models for motorsports applications, updating Python code as needed.
  2. Develop platforms for running Monte Carlo simulations.
  3. Create and refine tire degradation models for accurate predictions.
  4. Design visualizations to effectively communicate insights, collaborating with IT and software teams for implementation.
  5. Verify and improve race strategy tools and models, working with IMSA and WEC teams to derive actionable insights.
  6. Analyze vehicle pace considering track migration, traffic, and energy strategies.
  7. Predict pace variations to inform race and session strategies.
  8. Collaborate with cross-functional teams within GM and motorsports to develop and support strategy tools.
  9. Co-develop race strategy software with data science and IT teams.
  10. Apply analysis techniques across different racing series to validate and refine models.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science, or related field.
  • 5+ years in top-level motorsports series (NASCAR, IMSA, F1, IndyCar, WEC, etc.) with 2+ years developing or using strategy tools.
  • Deep knowledge of motorsports race strategies and analysis during live events.
  • Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, or similar programming languages.
  • Experience with AI/ML modeling and industry-relevant methods.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a forward-thinking mindset.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with experience in team collaboration and navigating organizational politics.
  • Ability to travel within the US up to 10% of the time.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in a quantitative or related field.
  • Experience with tire modeling, testing, and validation.
  • Knowledge of simulation workflows in professional motorsports.
  • Experience with machine learning libraries and big data tools (Hadoop, Spark, SQL, NoSQL).
