Qualifications

Job Description:

We are seeking a Motorsports Sportscar Data Analyst to apply data science and modeling techniques to develop and refine race strategy tools, facilitating insightful pre-race planning and real-time decision making during live race events.

Responsibilities include:
  1. Evolving AI/ML models for Sportscars, refining existing codebases, and reimagining where necessary.
  2. Developing platforms for Monte Carlo simulations and creating tire degradation models.
  3. Designing visualizations to convey insights, collaborating with IT and software teams for implementation.
  4. Verifying and improving race strategy tools, collaborating with IMSA and WEC teams.
  5. Resolving true vehicle pace considering track migration, traffic, and other factors.
  6. Predicting in-race pace variations to inform strategies.
  7. Working with cross-functional teams within GM and its motorsports divisions.
  8. Co-developing production race strategy software.
  9. Applying analysis techniques across different racing series for validation and refinement.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science, or related field.
  • 5+ years experience in top-level motorsports series (NASCAR, IMSA, F1, IndyCar, WEC, etc.) with at least 2 years developing or utilizing strategy tools.
  • Deep knowledge of motorsports race strategy tools and analysis during live events.
  • Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, or similar programming languages.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML modeling techniques.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a forward-thinking mindset.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to build relationships, and mentoring capabilities.
  • Willingness to travel within the US (up to 10%).
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in a quantitative field.
  • Experience in tire modeling and simulation workflows.
  • Knowledge of machine learning libraries and big data tools (Hadoop, Spark, SQL, NoSQL).
