Job description

More than 135 years ago, we started with core values that never go out of style: listen, learn and help businesses and individuals reach their goals. These core values shape our culture, and we were recently Great Place to Work Certified because of our outstanding workplace culture and employee experience. As well, our financial strength and stability are key reasons Forbes named us one of the Best 100 Banks in America for the ninth consecutive year.

With more than $16 billion in assets and 135 branch locations throughout Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and California, we understand our role in the economy and take that responsibility seriously. In addition to offering a source of capital to personal banking clients and businesses of all sizes, we place a high importance on employee volunteerism and donate millions of dollars each year to community organizations.

As a Mortgage Operations Manager, you’ll play a critical role in leading the teams and processes that help deliver a seamless mortgage experience from application through underwriting. This position offers the opportunity to drive operational excellence, strengthen risk management practices, and develop high-performing teams while helping customers achieve their homeownership goals.

In this role you’ll
  • Lead mortgage processing and underwriting operations, ensuring loans are reviewed accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with credit and documentation requirements.
  • Guide teams in resolving complex and escalated loan application, underwriting, and operational issues while delivering an exceptional customer experience.
  • Review and approve complex loan scenarios and underwriting decisions within delegated authority and appropriately elevate high-risk or non-standard requests.
  • Ensure consistent interpretation and application of investor, agency, regulatory, and internal lending guidelines.
  • Oversee loan data integrity, documentation quality, and operational processes to maintain compliance and operational effectiveness.
  • Manage daily workflow distribution and pipeline performance across processing and underwriting teams to meet service level expectations.
  • Analyze operational metrics, production trends, and reporting to identify risks and implement process improvements.
  • Partner closely with loan production, closing, secondary marketing, quality control, and other key stakeholders to resolve loan challenges and improve loan flow.
  • Promote adherence to policies, procedures, regulations, and internal controls while supporting audit readiness and quality assurance efforts. Lead, coach, and develop mortgage operations team members, supporting performance management, workforce planning, and employee growth.
What we’re looking for
  • You have a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business, Economics, Law, Computer Science, or a related field (Required). An equivalent combination of education and experience can be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • You have 6+ years of experience in mortgage operations, operational leadership, process oversight, and team management (Required).
  • You have 4+ years of supervisory or management experience leading a team, process, or project (Required).
What helps you shine
  • You bring deep knowledge of mortgage operations, including processing, underwriting, and cross-functional workflow management.
  • You understand regulatory, investor, and internal lending requirements and can apply them consistently across operations.
  • You proactively identify operational and credit risks and take action to mitigate them.
  • You use data, reporting, and performance trends to evaluate results and drive continuous improvement.
  • You communicate effectively with leaders, stakeholders, and team members to influence outcomes and align priorities.
  • You build strong partnerships across departments to support business goals and customer success.
  • You thrive in changing environments and can effectively guide teams through evolving priorities.
  • You are passionate about coaching, developing, and empowering employees to achieve their full potential.
