Job summary

Alecto Recruitment Limited is seeking a skilled Mobile Plant Fitter / Field Service Engineer to support a varied fleet of construction plant and heavy machinery across the East Midlands. The role offers a competitive salary, a company van, fuel card and excellent benefits, with no overtime and no door-to-door work.

The position is based around Peterborough, Northampton and Milton Keynes, with Monday to Friday on site working hours.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as mobile plant fitter or similar role.
• Experience diagnosing faults and performing mechanical repairs on plant machinery.
• Knowledge of 1.5 to 21 tonnes equipment.
• LOLER / PUWER inspection experience is advantageous but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Attend customer sites to diagnose and repair plant breakdowns.
• Carry out mechanical repairs, fault finding and diagnostics on mobile plant machinery 1.5–21 tonnes.
• Work on excavators, telehandlers, dumpers, loaders and other construction equipment.
• Support off-hire inspections, equipment maintenance and fleet reliability.
• Complete digital reports and technical documentation.
• Help minimise downtime through troubleshooting and root-cause analysis.
• Focus on breakdown repairs and mechanical fitting rather than routine servicing.
• LOLER / PUWER inspection experience is advantageous.

The Role

• With most machinery covered by service contracts, the focus is on breakdown repairs and mechanical fitting rather than routine servicing.
• LOLER / PUWER inspection experience is advantageous but not essential, as the business has a dedicated plant inspector.

What We're Looking For

• Experience as a Mobile Plant Fitter, Heavy Plant Engineer, Field Service Engineer or similar.
• Strong mechanical, hydraulic and diagnostic fault-finding skills.
• Experience repairing construction plant or heavy equipment.
• Ability to work independently and deliver high-quality repairs.
• Good communication and IT skills.

Location
