Job summary

Alecto Recruitment is working with an established plant operations business in Cornwall to recruit a Mobile Plant Engineer (CP33908). You will service, maintain and repair construction plant machinery on-site, focusing on heavy diesel engines and hydraulic systems.

The role is £35,000–£41,000 per year, with overtime at 1.5x, Monday–Friday and 42.5 hours per week. A valid UK driving licence and hands-on mechanical skills are essential for this permanent position.

Qualifications

• Valid UK driving licence.
• Hands-on experience servicing and repairing construction plant machinery.
• Strong knowledge of heavy diesel engines and hydraulic systems.
• Experience with pneumatic and electrical systems.
• Fabrication and welding experience.
• Experience with 12-month Thorough Examinations for excavators/telehandlers.
• Own set of tools.
• Good diagnostic and fault-finding skills.
• Able to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Carry out routine servicing and preventative maintenance on construction plant machinery.
• Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical faults.
• Attend emergency breakdowns and complete on-site repairs.

• Undertake Thorough Examinations on excavators and telehandlers.
• Ensure machinery is maintained to a safe and operational standard.

Plant Fitter / Field Service Engineer – Cornwall

Alecto Recruitment is working with an established business within the construction plant industry to recruit a Plant Fitter / Field Service Engineer based in Cornwall.

This is a permanent opportunity for a hands‑on engineer with strong mechanical and hydraulic skills, who can confidently carry out routine maintenance, diagnose faults and respond to emergency breakdowns across construction plant machinery.

The Role

You'll be responsible for maintaining, repairing and ensuring the safe operation of owned and hired construction plant machinery. Working on‑site, you'll play a key role in keeping equipment operational, minimising downtime and ensuring machinery meets the required safety standards.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Carrying out routine servicing and preventative maintenance on construction plant machinery.
• Diagnosing mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical faults.
• Attending emergency breakdowns and completing repairs on‑site.
• Working on heavy diesel engines and hydraulic systems.
• Carrying out fabrication and welding repairs where required.
• Undertaking safety overhauls and 12-month structural safety inspections (Thorough Examinations) on excavators and telehandlers.
• Ensuring machinery is maintained to a safe and operational standard.
• Working effectively with colleagues and supporting the wider team.

What We're Looking For

• A valid UK driving licence.
• Hands‑on experience servicing and repairing construction plant machinery.
• Strong practical knowledge of heavy diesel engines and hydraulic systems.
• Experience with pneumatic and electrical systems.
• Fabrication and welding experience.
• Experience carrying out, or relevant competence in, 12-month structural safety inspections (Thorough Examinations) for excavators and telehandlers.
• NVQ Level 2 or Level 3 in Plant Maintenance preferred, but not essential.
• Your own tools.
• Good diagnostic, fault‑finding and problem‑solving skills.
• The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
