Job summary

Northumbrian Water Group is seeking a Mechanical Technician in the Consett area to diagnose faults and perform preventative maintenance, improving plant availability. You will work as a fully mobile technician with a company van, based from home, and participate in standby rotas with provided training and PPE.

Strong reading of mechanical drawings and a hands‑on approach are essential, along with a commitment to health and safety and DBS/drug testing as part of pre-employment checks.

Qualifications

• Time served Mechanical Technician with ONC/NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering.
• Maintenance background in reactive breakdowns and planned work.
• Ability to read mechanical drawings and identify faulty components.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose faults and carry out corrective actions to restore plant availability.
• Perform preventative maintenance and inspections to reduce downtime.
• Read and interpret mechanical drawings to locate failure points and replace components.
• Operate as a fully mobile technician, coordinating with site teams and adhering to safety standards.
