Job summary

Kemp Recruitment Ltd is seeking a Mobile Forklift Engineer for Chelmsford and surrounding areas. The role involves servicing and repairing forklift trucks, diagnosing faults, and performing LOLER inspections to ensure compliance.

Hours are Monday–Friday, 40 hours with optional on-call rota. Basic salary £30,000–£38,000 with overtime leading to higher OTE figures and a company van with fuel card. We value longevity and a long-term commitment to one employer.

Qualifications

• Experience as forklift engineer or plant fitter with a stable work history.
• Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills are essential.
• Experience with diesel engines and electrical/hydraulic systems preferred.

Responsibilities

• Service, maintain and repair forklift trucks and material handling equipment.
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical and hydraulic faults and repair as needed.
• Carry out LOLER inspections and safety checks.
• Complete service reports and site documentation accurately.
• Coordinate with parts to source and fit correct components.

Job description

Job Title: Mobile Forklift Engineer

OTE: £41,249-£52,249

Location: Chelmsford & surrounding areas

Overtime is paid at 1.5x - Lots available!

Hours: Monday to Friday, 40hrs

optional on call rota 1 in 5 weeks

The Role

• Servicing, maintaining and repairing a wide range of forklift trucks and material handling equipment
• Diagnosing and resolving mechanical, electrical and hydraulic faults
• Carrying out LOLER inspections
• Completing detailed safety checks and pre-delivery inspections (PDI)
• Responding to breakdowns and carrying out reactive maintenance to minimise customer downtime
• Completing service reports, job sheets and all relevant compliance documentation accurately
• Liaising with parts departments to ensure the correct components are sourced and fitted

What We're Looking For

• Experience required: Forklift Engineer, Plant Fitter, Agricultural technician, HGV technician
• Strong knowledge and hands‑on experience with diesel engines
• Excellent diagnostic and fault-finding skills
• Experience working with electrical and hydraulic systems
• Experience or knowledge of LOLER inspections would be desirable
• The ideal candidate will have a strong track record of longevity and stability in previous positions, with a genuine interest in building a long-term career with one organisation.
