Job summary

Expedia Group in London offers an Applied Science Intern - PhD role designed to develop machine learning capabilities within real-world travel platforms. You will design and prototype ML models, work on training/inference code, and collaborate across teams to translate product and data needs into robust ML solutions.

Ideal candidates are PhD students graduating 2027–2028, with strong Python/Scala and SQL skills, experience with Spark/Hadoop, and readiness to relocate if needed.

Qualifications

• Must be available to commit to the full program dates: 21st June – 27th August 2027.
• Must be graduating with a PhD degree in a technical subject between December 2027 and July 2028.
• Must be willing to relocate to the city of job location if outside commuting distance.
• Must have Python and/or Scala, SQL knowledge.
• Must be graduating from university in the same country as the internship location.

Responsibilities

• Design, prototype, and evaluate ML models under guidance of senior scientists.
• Implement clean training and inference code with unit tests and experimentation workflows.
• Participate in low-level system design, API design, and data modeling for ML features.
• Explore and prepare data using statistical and ML techniques to improve models.
• Collaborate with data scientists, engineers, and product partners to define success metrics.
