Job summary

Thurston Group, an established manufacturer specialising in modular buildings and off-site construction, is seeking an experienced MIG Welder/Fabricator. You will weld MIG/MAG on mild and structural steel and fabricate frames and components.

You will read and interpret drawings, measure and fit steel sections, operate fabrication equipment, and inspect welds to ensure quality, while working to production schedules with strict safety practices. This is a workshop-based, full-time role.

Qualifications

• Experience as a MIG Welder/Fabricator.
• Experience with mild and structural steel.
• Ability to read engineering drawings.
• Experience fabricating steel frames and assemblies.
• Solid welding and fabrication techniques.
• Accurate work in a workshop environment.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out MIG/MAG welding on mild and structural steel.
• Fabricate and assemble structural steel frames, chassis and components.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings and fabrication specifications.
• Measure, cut, prepare and fit steel sections accurately.
• Operate fabrication equipment, including grinders and cutting machinery.
• Inspect completed welds and assemblies to ensure quality standards are met.
• Work efficiently to production schedules while following health and safety procedures.

Essential Requirements

• Previous experience as a MIG Welder/Fabricator.
• Strong experience working with mild and structural steel.
• Ability to read and work independently from engineering drawings.
• Experience fabricating steel frames and assemblies.
• Good understanding of welding and fabrication techniques.
• Ability to work accurately in a workshop environment.

Desirable Experience

• Previous experience in structural steel fabrication.
• Experience manufacturing modular buildings, steel chassis or similar structures.
• NVQ Level 2/3 or equivalent in Welding and Fabrication.
• Overhead crane or forklift experience.

Salary & Benefits

• £15.00-£16.50 per hour, depending on experience.
• Full-time working hours.
